In a deeply personal Instagram post, Branson recalled how the couple laughed about ending up on the same hospital floor and enjoyed a “lovely lunch” together shortly before her sudden death. He described Joan as being in positive spirits, smiling radiantly — the same smile that captured his heart half a century ago.

Branson said Joan passed quickly and painlessly, with him and their children, Sam and Holly, at her side. He expressed gratitude for the extraordinary life they shared, calling her “the most wonderful mum and grandmum our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for.”
