Washington DC Shooting
Washington, D.C. — A West Virginia National Guardsman is showing signs of recovery after being critically injured in an ambush-style shooting near the White House on November 26.
Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, sustained a severe head wound but, according to his parents, is “slowly healing” and beginning to “look more like himself.” Governor Patrick Morrisey said Wolfe is expected to remain in acute care for two to three weeks, though his family remains optimistic about his progress.
Wolfe’s colleague, Sarah Beckstrom, 20, also of the West Virginia National Guard, died from her injuries in the attack. The suspected gunman, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national, has been charged with first-degree murder and assault with intent to kill.
Governor Morrisey attended a vigil at Musselman High School in Inwood, West Virginia, where Wolfe once studied. Messages from Wolfe’s parents expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received worldwide, noting their faith keeps them hopeful.
